Bedford, NY – Dressage4Kids and Anne Baber Wallis are pleased to announce that Emily Gill is the first ever recipient of the new D4K Christian Kennedy Young Adult Scholarship. Anne thanks the many generous donors who have helped make this scholarship a reality.

This scholarship is awarded in memory of Christian Kennedy. As a young rider, Christian was known for his patience, his kindness, his horsemanship, and his joie de vivre. The D4K Christian Kennedy Young Adult Scholarship is awarded to promote, train, and inspire young riders through a special winter training grant. As the recipient of the award, Emily will work under the training leadership of Oded Shimoni at OS Dressage in Wellington, Florida. Kim Van Kampen and Hampton Green Farm are generously offering stabling.

Writes Michele Shaffer, “Emily is a person who motivates, helps others and wants to leave situations better then when she started.”
Emily earned her Bachelor of Science in Equestrian Studies through the University of Findlay, with a minor in Business Management. She has worked with horses at all levels in their training – from green through Grand Prix – and in many disciplines, including dressage, hunter/jumper, breed shows, western, and eventing. Emily believes that riding across the disciplines has helped her understand horses a little better. Emily says, “There is so much to [dressage] other than riding, and I want to always be around these amazing animals and make them proud.”

Emily has achieved her USDF Bronze and Silver Medals and is currently working towards her USDF Gold Medal on her self-trained horse, Coulee Bend Kahlua. She trains primarily with Francesca Nicoletti, but has also worked with Michael Barisone, Lendon Gray, Courtney King-Dye, Scott Hassler, Jeremy Steinberg and George Williams.

Emily has participated in The Dressage Foundation’s International Dream Program and has worked at the Hannover Verband in Verden, Germany, helping prepare their horses for the November auction. In addition to riding, Emily also has her certification in Equine Massage Therapy and Rehab.

When asked about Emily, her trainer, Francesca Nicoletti, writes, “she has the talent and most importantly the integrity that our sport strives for.”

Congratulations to Emily!

Dressage4Kids Announces Kross Creek Farm Team Competition in honor of Margarita Serrell at Lendon’s Youth Dressage Festival

Dressage4Kids is pleased to announce that Kross Creek Farm is the new title sponsor of the Kross Creek Farm Team Competition in honor of Margarita Serrell at Lendon’s Youth Dressage Festival.

Inaugurated in 1999, Lendon’s Youth Dressage Festival offers individual and team competition for riders from ages 4 through 21. Kross Creek Farm and Dressage4Kids are proud to support the development of youth in Dressage.

Close to 50 teams usually compete at Lendon’s Youth Dressage Festival. Some teams are formed in advance, but other teams are often formed during the Festival when riders meet up with friends old and new. The team competition culminates in the Parade of Teams, during which riders get to walk into the stadium together with their teammates to be recognized for their achievements.

Until competing at the FEI levels, and even then, there are few chances for youth dressage riders to participate on a team. And yet being part of a team gives riders a chance to be a part of something bigger – to share in the ups and downs, to offer support, to cheer on their teammates, to build confidence, and to share their love of horses with others.

When asked about Lendon’s Youth Dressage Festival, young riders consistently rank the team aspect as one of their favorite parts of the competition. One family writes, “the emphasis on… teamwork and [the] overall spirit of the Festival are truly unique and special. We love it!”

Dressage4Kids is very thankful to Kross Creek Farm for their support to keep this team competition a part of Lendon’s Youth Dressage Festival!
